Grace:
I want to enroll in a coding bootcamp and start a tech career, but I’m not sure I can pivot 180 degrees and take my life in a completely new direction. Is it really possible?

TripleTen Team:

Hi Grace! It’s normal to feel hesitation about such a life-changing step. Even if you like the subject and feel motivated to try it out, you might still feel some trepidation. You’re not alone! Many TripleTen students are new to tech when they start; only 13% of them come to us with a background in STEM.

We’ve walked many students through this life-changing experience, and we’re proud of our 87% employment rate. That’s how many of our grads land tech jobs within six months. As you can see, we help make sure the pivot sticks.

TripleTen students begin with a plan and tons of support from TripleTen. Our tutors, code reviewers, senior students, and career team specialists know each student has their own needs. That means you’ll not just be able to pick up new knowledge and start practicing your skills through our study platform. You will also be able to take as much time as you need and request a break if you feel overwhelmed.

We also ensure that the professions the students train in are really what they’re looking for. This means they know they’re making the right choice, and this focus keeps them from worrying that this pivot might be in vain. In fact, we encourage students to take a career quiz before enrolling in the program.

However, there are other ways you can ensure your career pivot is successful even before you join a bootcamp. Let’s check a few out.

Gather insights from your current job

Write down these three things to understand your true goals:

1. What inspires you in your current job?

There are things that you consider satisfying, be it stable pay, a close-knit team, or the possibility of feeling like an expert in your field. Keeping those things in mind will help you find what you expect and even guide you in your job search

2. What frustrates you in your current job?

These thorny aspects will encourage you to change and can shape your decision to pivot. There may be many reasons why people decide to move on from their current jobs. Knowing that a tech job can solve your pain points will be a great start.

3. What is the key thing you’re looking for in your new job?

A mixture of the two preceding questions, this is all about recognizing the main thing that will keep you satisfied in your future job. Consider your answers to the previous two sections to guide your choice. Then, as you read about tech professions, you can match your ambitions to what each career offers.

Check the job market

If you feel inspired to pursue a specific job, some additional research will strengthen your drive. Job postings on LinkedIn and Wellfound will help contribute to your career roadmap:

  • Is the profession in demand? If there are over 20,000 vacancies, the answer is yes!
  • How much will I get paid? Glassdoor salaries will give you an idea.
  • Which skills will I need to obtain? Compare the expected skills to the school or bootcamp’s curriculum to make sure you’re on the right track.

Start your studies

Now you’re ready to choose a course that will help you reach your goal.

We shaped our educational program to enable people new to tech to pursue a career pivot step-by-step. Part-time studies allow you to continue with your regular responsibilities until graduation so that you don’t have to put your life on hold while you pursue a career change.

With TripleTen, you’ll be able to shift to a new career. Top professionals will guide you throughout your journey so that your pivot will bring you where you want to go.
