Look up shows about tech on your favorite podcast app, and it’s like a content firehose opened up. Which one should you choose? Well, we already have some recommendations6 Podcasts for Women Starting Careers in IT, but we got curious: what would someone who’s a tech and education expert suggest people listen to?
If only we had someone like that at TripleTen…
Good news: we do. We asked Andrei Parfenov, curriculum lead of TripleTen’s Software Engineering Program, and he pointed us to two great podcasts that are must-listens for people building a career in tech.
1. Syntax
Looking for a podcast all about web development? This is the right one for you. Since its inception in 2017, this podcast has explored the ins and outs of web development — from languages to frameworks and from databases to deployment.
It gives an unvarnished look not only at tools and hard skills, but it also explores the actualities of what it’s like to work in tech. This is part of what makes it Andrei’s first recommendation.
It’s a go-to podcast for web developers and those who are just beginning their web development journey. The hosts discuss not only technologies but also work culture and learning opportunities. Andrei Parvenov, curriculum lead of TripleTen’s Software Engineering Program
And because the podcast has been running for so long and they’ve covered such a gamut of topics, you can be choosy about what you want to listen to and still find what you’re looking for. This is a strategy Andrei applies. “I’m very picky about topics and episodes, so I usually just search for the topic I’m interested in on their website, learning JavaScriptHow Long Does It Take to Learn JavaScript? for example, and listen to the episode that best fits my request.”
2. The Changelog
Self-described as “software's best weekly news brief, deep technical interviews & talk show,” this podcast that started in 2009 explores a similar range of topics as the recommendation above — programming languages, tools, and software development best practices, for example.
But what truly sets it apart is its focus on bringing on diverse guests and structuring each episode around a core of storytelling. According to Andrei, the guests really make this podcast worthwhile.
It’s the best podcast if you want to learn about different digital products and listen to the experiences and career tips from founders, CTOs, and software engineers. Andrei Parvenov, curriculum lead of TripleTen’s Software Engineering Program
This makes it a great choice for people who want to not only gain insight into the nuts and bolts of the industry, but who also want to know the human side — the behind-the-scenes stories of difficulties and triumphs that can be overlooked in the project- and goal-oriented world of software development.
