Summer is ending, signaling the end of vacation season and a recommitment to the office. As many people head back to work full-time, now is a great opportunity to reach out and network to find your next role! To help with your career search, TripleTen Career Coach Christina Guida has provided some helpful metrics and insights into the job market for September 2023.

The Labor Market is Healthy and Tight

Based on a recent study published by the Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics, the job market is healthy and tight. As layoffs slow, some job seekers are seeing higher compensation as head counts increase.

Between August and September 2023, 187,000 new jobs were added to payrolls.

This stands at odds with an increase in unemployment from 3.5% to 3.8% but is explained by higher numbers of people looking for new work. While the unemployment rate went up, it is still below average for this time of year.

According to Luke Tilley, Chief Economist at Wilmington Trust Investment Advisors, with jobs being added to payrolls, low unemployment, and growth in compensation, hiring seems to be back at pre-pandemic levels.

Recruiters are Leveraging Emerging Technologies to Find Talent

Passing out resumes is not enough when looking for a new job. The IT staffing firm X-Free reported that many companies are adopting emerging technologies in their recruiting process. These technologies help teams discover, sort, and act on talent leads. To stay competitive as a job seeker, you need to stay up to date on these trends, too.

As part of this, LinkedIn is becoming more prominent. While LinkedIn has been around since 2003, recruiters are finding new ways to discover talent through keyword searches, documented work networks, and content sharing. It’s never too late to build your LinkedIn profile or improve it to help you stand out.

Here are Christina’s top 10 ways to optimize your LinkedIn profile to get and hold recruiters’ attention:

1. Create a compelling profile headline
2. Craft an engaging summary
3. Complete all profile sections
4. Use relevant keywords throughout your profile
5. Highlight your key achievements
6. Regularly share personal career and industry content
7. Frequently update your profile
8. Follow companies and influencers in your industry
9. Customize your connection requests
10. Engage with your network

Maintaining a complete and engaging LinkedIn profile will greatly benefit you in your job search. LinkedIn is the place for first impressions with other professionals, so make sure you put a good foot forward!
